San Jose Repertory Theatre’s Creative Playshops Program is an innovative educational program which benefits children (ages 6-12) and their families. While adults attend Saturday matinee performances of the Rep’s mainstage productions, their children attend the theatre as well—though, while the adults are watching theatre, their children are creating it, in interactive improvisational theatre workshops related to the themes of the mainstage production. Creative Playshop participants create characters, make up stories and scenes, and tap into their creativity to imagine, and bring to life, people, places, and whole worlds that never existed before!All of this takes place upstairs in the Rep’s 4th floor Studio Theatre at 3:00pm. Participation in the arts fosters learning from the inside out– learning that often encourages reflection and enhances a child’s ability to interpret.
