The Foreigner
August 30 – September 28, 2008
by Larry Shue
directed by Andrew Barnicle
Winner of two Obie Awards, Best New
American Play and Best Off-Broadway
Production, The Foreigner is an
uproariously inspired comedy that
celebrates our curiosity and empathy for
“the outsider.” Englishman Charlie Baker,
self-proclaimed “world’s dullest man,”
takes a vacation at a rural fishing lodge
with his eccentric army buddy, Froggy
LeSueur. Froggy concocts an outrageous
scheme to save Charlie from his
pathological shy self by introducing him
as an exotic “foreigner” who can’t speak
English. It isn’t long before Charlie’s
guileless persona backfires and the mix
of good-hearted, slow-witted and devious
lodge guests share their deepest secrets and most sinister plans. What ensues is a series of hilarious and heart-warming revelations, which lead to the ultimate good guys vs. bad guys climax!

REGIONAL PREMIERE!
A Picasso
January 24 – February 22, 2009
by Jeffrey Hatcher
directed by Jonathan Moscone
It’s Paris, a city renowned for it’s artistic
freedom. But it’s 1941 and the German
occupation has established a paranoid
culture at its most oppressive. Pablo
Picasso has been brought to a storage
vault to authenticate three paintings that
have recently been “acquired” by the
Germans. The beautiful, mysterious and
art obsessed Miss Fischer, an adjunct to
the Ministry of Culture in Berlin, has the
arduous and compelling task of
interrogating the man who painted
Guernica. When the true purpose of Miss
Fischer’s mission is revealed, an intense
and passionate game of cat-and-mouse
ensues. This provocative and witty play, by one of America’s most widely produced playwrights, sizzles under the scrutiny of art, politics, sex and censorship, as the artistic genius is forced to justify his creativity.

The Kite Runner
March 21 – April 19, 2009
novel by Khaled Hosseini
stage adaption by Matthew Spangler
directed by Davis Ira Goldstein
Adapted from the international best-
seller, The Kite Runner is a haunting

modern Afghanistan, from the pre-
Russian-invasion glory days through the
horrific reign of the Taliban. This
eloquent tale is told through the lives of
two boys growing up in Kabul in the
same household, but in two starkly
different worlds. Amir is the son of a
wealthy yet emotionally distant
businessman, while Hassan is the son of
Amir’s father’s servant, a shunned ethnic
minority. Despite the vast gulf in social
positions, the two grow up inseparable until Amir and his father flee the country during the Soviet invasion. Years later, an emotionally crippled Amir returns to Afghanistan to seek out his old friend and atone for his youthful cowardice. But fate, global politics and historical tragedy threaten Amir’s ability to make amends for his past.
